I'm veeerrryyy torn about this book... My biggest advice would probably be, don't look into this book unless you reeeally like Tyler Oakley. The writing in this book makes it seem like he's narrating this to a 12 year-old who's obsessed with him. It's not necessarily condescending, but he narrates his life very . . . I don't even know. Entitled. Along with that, the writing itself isn't the absolute best, and many times is a bit corny. He writes exactly how he speaks in his videos-- slang and puns and all-- and I can't help but think that this book would have been a more entertaining video than it was a book. The main reasons I bought this are because 1) I do think Tyler is a charming and silly person, and I wanted to support him, and 2) He kept selling this book as "stories i've never spoken about before," and that really intrigued me. I will say that this book revealed a lot about Tyler that I would have never guessed (such as his real first name isn't even Tyler, but you'll have to read the book to find that out), so it delivered what I expected. Even so, I can't help but feeling like this book just seemed like such Entitlement. The only reason it exists is because he's famous. If Tyler Oakley was some random person on the street, he wouldn't narrate a book like this or be able to sell millions of copies without a fanbase. Without his fame, this book would be completely irrelevant and probably boring. So that's why I'd only recommend this to people who are Tyler fans, and within that group of people, only those who are younger, since his writing is a bit lame and tailored toward younger people. (An afterthought: that's actually a weird way for me to promote this book because it was actually quite inappropriate at times, too. I guess just look up the first chapter of this on Amazon preview and decide for yourself how the narration sits with you.)
This was the first book I've picked up from a big Youtuber, and I don't expect i'll buy one again unless, again, it's a person that I REALLY support.
