If you've read the other books by Mr Locke, there's not much I can say beyond it's the usual fun romp of a good time, you won't be disappointed if you've enjoyed his other works. For a $.99 book, can you really ask for more, beyond there being more?

Goodbye Enorma is classic Locke, entertaining, full of references to his other works, some of which are reinforcing a story line, others answering a question or creating a new one. Something which I believe was new in this book were quite a few references to real history, such as tie-ins with actual events around the Civil War era in America. As well as some campy and entertaining references to folk tales you'll immediately pick up on, along with the running jokes involving Enorma. While some may find these obvious and unenlightened, they are still going to make you laugh. And isn't that the point?

For those who have not read any of Mr Locke's works, or, perhaps have only read his Donovan Creed series, and have thought you have no interest in a western, let me say, you are incorrect. While these western novels stand well on their own, they shine as what they are. Which is, stories about Donovan Creed's Great Grandfather (if I recall the reference to Scarlett Rose correctly from one of the Creed books).

If this were your first Emmett Love story, you'll be entertained, though clearly left wondering about many references to Emmett and Gentry's past. I don't believe you'll feel totally lost, simply that you will likely feel compelled to pick up the other books in the series. As for reading, all the books by Mr Locke I have found for some reason to complete much too fast. Either Mr Locke is very brief of word, or has a way of assembling word, sentence and story as to cause me to read quicker than others I typically read.

If you are new to Mr Locke's work, and are wondering if an author who specializes in $.99 books can truly be any good, let me simply say I wondered the same. After having read these books, along with some other authors whose works are only found in e-book formats, I can say there are definitely a few very good authors not limited by the large publishing houses producing very enjoyable works. The Emmett Love series is warm, compassionate, adventurous, surprising, sad, uplifting and a laugh riot at various times. I've not found any of these stories to lag or get bogged down with too much detail, as the author presumes the audience will immediately understand most of the references. Having watched a couple old western movies should provide enough context for anyone to enjoy these stories.

Going beyond the Emmett Love stories, these stories also bring to light much about Rose, a character who is quietly involved in the life of Donovan Creed, the main character in Mr Locke's main novel series. In essence, Emmett Love is a spin off of the Creed series, which both provides great insights into how Mr Creed has come to be, along with being a perfectly fitting stand alone series.

You'll notice I haven't really said anything about the story, which is fully intentional, as I really don't want anyone who may be interested in reading this to have any of the fun spoiled.

Hope if you give this a try, you enjoy it as much as I did.
